Hey there! I'm Editor Jess, the owner of HEA Author Services.
I'm an editor and author coach who specializes in romance fiction. My clients range from best-selling authors like Pippa Grant and Lucy Score to new authors who are writing their first book. I worked with Entangled Publishing for four years, first as an intern then editorial assistant, where I acquired manuscripts by authors such as Kelly Jamieson and Carol Pavliska (currently writing as Carly Bloom). I have been an independent editor for indie authors since 2016.
External accolades aren't really my thing, but I am proud to say that books I've worked on have hit the New York Times and USA Today bestsellers lists because those authors write amazing stories! And I was also featured not only on Chris Guillebeau's Side Hustle School podcast but also in his LinkedIn Learning course.
As a coach, I tailor each program to the needs of the individual - some writers are looking for an accountability partner, others want to learn about publishing, and some want to plot out a multi-book series. I am happy to offer guidance and support for each of those goals and more!
My favorite stories subvert tropes, toss cliches on their heads, and often feature a badass female main character.
On the personal front, my Shiloh Shepherd, Arrow, and I are nomading around North America - you can follow our journey on Instagram. I spent over five years in the US Army as an Arabic interpreter, so I'm a tiny bit particular when it comes to military romance. And I'm still searching for the ultimate chocolate chip cookie recipe, though I have some truly stellar ones in my back pocket after years of research.
