Hi!
I’m Editor Jess, an experienced romance author coach.
You’ve written a romance novel – or you want to – but you have some questions.
What career path should you take to achieve success?
What’s working in the market today for the kinds of books you write?
How can you untangle a plot knot the size of The World’s Largest Ball of Twine?
Who can you talk to about the challenges, stresses, joys, and opportunities of an author career when your family and friends don’t write?
Enter coaching: One-on-one conversations customized to your needs
Writing is solitary work, but you don’t have to go it alone.
Whether you need unbiased support with your career strategy, help breaking through a story problem, or some structure to build accountability, author coaching can provide all of that and more.
I have a decade of experience helping romance authors find their happily ever after.
What is coaching?
Think of coaching like a call with your bestie who just happens to have a lot of knowledge about the romance industry. You never feel dumb asking her any question, no matter how basic, because you know she wants you to succeed. Her answers are consistently supportive, notably actionable, sometimes a little irreverent, and always honest.
It’s a scheduled block of time – usually an hour, but it can also be longer or shorter – dedicated entirely to you.
On a video call (like Zoom), we’ll work together one-on-one and focus on the issues that you care about the most.
Coaching can give you a fresh perspective, a sounding board to test ideas, motivation and support, and occasionally (if you need it and want it) a little tough love.
We can have a single conversation, talk weekly, or have regular conversations each month to help keep your author career moving forward. You choose the schedule that works best for you.
I’m here to support you!
What types of challenges can author coaching help me solve?
So coaching sounds interesting. How do I know it’s right for me?
Authors book coaching with me for topics like:
- Guidance on where to go next in the writing or publishing process
- Tips for thinking through productivity challenges, from finding time to write to meeting deadlines and even project planning
- Plotting a book
- Quarterly business reviews to ensure you’re working toward your long-term goals
- Adding tropes, universal fantasy, and id list elements to your story
- Getting unstuck when you’re in the middle of writing a draft
- Planning a series that hits reader expectations and today’s hottest tropes
- Creating accountability and workplans to achieve your goals this month, this quarter, or this year
- Upleveling your writing and story craft
- Brainstorming marketing and promotion ideas
- Working out systems to keep your businesses on track
…and so much more. Not sure if coaching is right for you? Message me, let me know where you’re stuck, and I’ll help you determine if coaching is a good option.
I never want to waste your money or time, so if I don’t think I’m the right coach for you, I’ll tell you that up front.
What makes your coaching unique?
I am a romance expert:
I live and breathe romance novels. I have 10 years of experience as an editor, coach, and author business manager, which means I understand the romance market. And with 30+ years as a voracious romance reader, I understand that part too. I even have a copy of the very first romance novel I ever read way back in junior high!
I’ve worked with hundreds of authors at all levels:
My experience with authors at various stages of their careers – from New York Times and #1 Amazon bestsellers to midcareer authors and writers dreaming of publishing their first book – allows me to see success patterns and recommend strategies, tools, data, and approaches you may not have tried yet. My devil’s advocate brain can also help you analyze and validate ideas you’re considering.
I believe you can do it:
Anything can be fixed. Words on the page can be edited. Stress over a blank page can be soothed with an outline or even just a new idea. Confusion about the next steps can be solved by figuring out your goals and looking at different strategies to reach them. I believe you can do it – and I’m excited to work with you on your path to success.
I’m honest and kind:
My communication style is straightforward…but I’ll always be kind. I dislike the term “brutal honesty” because that often just means someone wants to tear down your writing with their opinions. I’m here to support you as you create the best, most-sellable book possible. I’ll give you my full attention and knowledge in order to help you achieve your goals.
